Google: One Billion Served
Date posted: June 28, 2011
Google became the first Internet company to claim over 1 billion unique users in a single month on its websites. According to data from comScore, Google-owned websites, which include its search engine, Gmail and YouTube, among others, racked up more than a billion unique visitors in the month of May. This was an 8.4 percent increase over the previous year and nearly double the 496 unique users in 2006.
Despite this, a study released last year found that Facebook was still the most-visited website of 2010 among U.S. users, however this was only in comparison to Google.com (and not all the Google-owned websites taken together.). Facebook also still leads the search engine behemoth in the “Time Spent” department, with users averaging anywhere from 2-3 minutes more per visit to the social media website. Still, those are historic numbers from Google.
