Lakeland College Launches Sites with Facebook Contest

Date posted: July 12, 2011

Lakeland College, in Alberta and Saskatchewan, has just launched a series of redesigned websites. These new web pages offer a new look and feel for the school and they make full use of mega menus, detailed program pages, plus calls to action on every program page. Lakeland has also unveiled a new slogan (“Live the Learning”) and launched mobile versions of the sites with automatic redirects.

What is interesting about this new approach, however, is the way Lakeland has used Facebook. The College is running a Facebook contest that invites friends to find links that aren’t working on the new sites. “We’ve done a lot of testing but we realize that we may have missed some links. We thought this little challenge would be a fun way to get people to explore our website,” said Cathy Wolters, Lakeland’s website coordinator. People that find errors have a chance to win Lakeland gear.

We’s discussed in the past how important it is to increase your school’s share of social media voice, and a contest like this is a great way to highlight new website changes and school developments and kickstart audience interaction with all your target audiences (which can increase your share of voice, provided you maintain that social media presence).
